I'm not new to jailbreaking/unlocking having done it repeatedly on my 3GS and now iPhone4. I understand the principle of saving hashes, creating custom ipsw's and NEVER updating with a stock ipsw (on an iPhone that is!). I AM new to iPad, which looks sort of like a larger version of an iPhone as far as I can tell. So I purchased an iPad 1 (64gb, 3G). Unfortunately, the seller "restored" the device before I came to pick it up and it now is running iOS v 5.0.1 and has baseband 7.11.01. I'm sort of assuming this is a complete non-starter when it comes to jailbreaking and unlocking. I've read the Jailbreak forum here and on the dev team blog and couldn't find much about the iPad-1 but just in case my suspicions are incorrect I'd like to know if it is at all possible to jailbreak (if not unlock) a device in this configuration or should I sell it and get one with an earlier OS and BB? If so, what should I look for? Is the procedure identical to the iPhone i.e. save the hashes, build a custom ipsw, option-restore in iTunes etc. Also, there are some factory unlocked iPad 1's out there. What BB do I need to be able to unlock it? BTW, Unlocking may not be THAT important since I can tether it to my unlocked iPhone4.
(My apologies in advance if this has been asked a zillion times but I haven't seen any responses)
Thanks,
John
