Why did Apple go for Micro SIM?
It is a new format designed for devices that can't fit a standard size SIM. AFAIK no one uses it yet. Isn't the iPad big enough for a standard SIM?
The iPad is unlocked but by choosing a Micro SIM Apple have restricted its appeal. Yes, I know you can chop down a standard SIM, but why? So people can make money selling me an adaptor so I can use my chopped down SIM in a normal device?
The release of the iPad does make me wonder if I did the right thing cancelling my data only SIM 3 days before it was announced (£7.50 for 5Gb/month) but as it's going to be 3 months before the iPad 3G is available in the USA it will probably be a longer wait until it's available in the civilised world

I think it was intended. Harder to get this sims. But is a scissors not enough to hack a usale sim?
Afaik the MicroSIM was pushed by TMobile, but the fun thing about it is, TMob is failing hard in the US with 3G lol.
T-Mobile is certainly not failing here in the UK!
Scissors should work but once you've cut it then it won't work in another device. If I had an iPad I couldn't, for example, use my iPhone SIM in it occasionally rather than getting a SIM just for the iPad.
How many people won't buy the iPad because their network does not do Micro SIMs and they won't know they can just cut down a normal SIM.
Here in Europe all phones use SIMs and I'm sure many people won't realise that scissors will work.

I googled, but I am not sure if scissors are the way to go even. There is soooo little information about Micro Sims, not even ETSI papers tell much about them.
Scissors do work. I had a dualsim solution for a while that needed 2 micro sims. I had to cut both my regular sims. You can buy adapters then later if you want to use the homegrown microsim as a regular one.
well that solves the problem for the microsim vs regular sims.... steve mentioned other carriers... i wonder who else in the US would have access to iPad? T-mobile USA could use it if apple puts a radio that uses the 3G freq or if tmobile updates their systems
We'll see what happens once the first "Apple partners" will start advertising. They have to provide Micro-Sims. We'll then give it a try with a cut one. There are several prepaid ones with data service around to test on. If it works (cut one) we know for sure, if not you just throw away the prepaid one.
ummm as in you have a sim in your phone right now and you want a copy of it as a micro so you can use the internet plan you currently have on your current plan?
